This year brought Hope Springs Water it’s largest investment in time, money and manpower to southern Belize and also a great impact in the central Ethiopian Region of Tollee. The drilling rig that was donated to us in October of 2014 has been made use of several times over in Ethiopia! Since March of 2015 there have been four more wells drilled in Bantu. Viola Palmer and Debbie Leatherwood collaborated to begin an excellent hygiene and education program in the village and plans are underway to train locals in hygiene education while expanding the program to other villages. With continued support and donations we hope to continue this mission of providing life for these people!
Early in this year, Hope Springs partnered with a number of churches in Texas to convert four open, contaminated hand dug wells in the Bantu Region of Ethiopia, Africa into enclosed rope and washer hand pump wells. These wells will serve several hundred people living in that region. Several more wells were converted in that region this summer, and more are planned for the fall. Drilling will continue in Belize as well, in partnership both with local churches and with a church in Nevada. In both Belize and Ethiopia, plans are underway to pursue the repair and reclamation of numerous non-functional wells in those areas.
This year offered even more opportunities for service around the world. A well was dug in the village of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, and plans have been made to fund even more wells in that country in the near future. A partnership was also forged with a missionary in Belize and a well was dug on his compound in the village of Punta Gorda, Belize. Another well was funded in Mexico with the Tarahumara Indians as well.
